2 Ս. ՆԻԿՈՂԱՅՈՍ ՍՔԱՆՉԵԼԱԳՈՐԾ ՀԱՅ ՅՐԱՊԵՏԻ ՅԻՇԱՏԱԿՈՒԹ ԻՇԱՏԱԿՈՒԹԵԱՆ ԱՆ ՕՐ ( ) (Դեկտեմբեր 10, 2016) Ս. Նիկողայոս Հայրապետը ծնած է 280 թ. մեծահարուստ ու բարեպաշտ ընտանիքի մը մէջ եւ եղած է Զմիւռնիոյ եպիսկոպոս: Մանուկ հասակէն կը կորսնցնէ ծնողքը եւ կը մեծնայ իր մօրեղբօր Նիկողայոս եպիսկոպոսի խնամքին տակ, յետոյ իրեն կը ձեռնադրէ որպէս քահանայ: 325 թ. կը մասնակցի Նիկիոյ Տիեզերական ժողովին: Իր ողջ կեանքը կը նուիրէ աղքատները, հիւանդները, բանտարկեալներն ու որբերը խնամելուն: Հետեւելով մեր Տէր Յիսուս Քրիստոսի ուսուցմներուն, թէ «Եթէ կ ուզես կատարեալ ըլլալ գնա ա, ծախէ ինչքդ եւ տո ւր աղքատներուն, ու ւ գանձ պիտի ունենաս երկինքը. ապա հետեւէ ինծի» (Մատթ. 19:21), ան կը վաճառէ իր ծնողներէն իրեն մնացած ողջ հարստութիւնը, դրամը ու կը բաժնէ բոլոր կարիքաւորներուն: Ս. Նիկողայոս օժտուած էր նաեւ հրաշագործութեան շնորհով, որու համար կոչուեցաւ Սքանչելագործ: Ս. Նիկողայոսի բարեգործութիւններու մասին շատ աւանդազրոյցներ կան: Անոնցմէ ամենայայտնին կը պատմէ, թէ ինչպէս Ս. Նիկողայոս փրկեց սնանկացած վաճառականը մեծ մեղք մը գործելէ: Վաճառականը ամուսնութեան տարիքի երեք դուստր ունէր: Դրամ չունենալոււ պատճառաւ որոշած էր դուստրերը վաճառել ստրկութեան: Որոշ աղբիւրներ կ'ըսեն, թէ երկնային տեսիլքով սուրբին յայտնի կը դառնայ այդ զազրելի մտադրութիւնը: Ս. Ծնունդի տօնին նախորդող գիշեր մը ան դրամով լի քսակ մը պատուհանէն ծածուկ ներս կը նետէ: Վաճառակաը դրամը կը գործածէ իր աղջկան պատուով ամուսանցնելու համար: Ս. Նիկողայոս նոյնը կը կրկնէ միւս 2 դուստրերուն համար եւս: Ս. Նիկողայոսը ընդհանրական Եկեղեցւոյ ամենասիրուած ու ամենաժողովրդական սուրբերէն մին է, որ այսօր առաւելաբար յայտնի է Santa Claus անունով: Ան կը համարուի մանուկներու եւ նաւաստիներու պահապան սուրբը: Ս. Նիկողայոսը կը համարուի նաեւ Ռուսիոյ պաշտպան սուրբը: Հայ Առաքելական Եկեղեցին Ս. Նիկողայոս Զմիւռնիացի Սքանչելագործ Հայրապետի յիշատակը կը տօնէ երկու անգամ Ս. Խաչի 10-րդ Կիրակիին յաջորդող Շաբաթ (այս տարի Նոյեմբեր 26) օրը եւ Յիսնակի Բ. Կիրակիին Յաջորդող Շաբաթ օրը: 2

3 ST. ST. NICHOLAS THE WONDERWORKER (December 10, 2016) St. Nicolas The Wonderworker was a fourth-century fourth Bishop of Myra, Lycia in Asia Minor (modern-day (modern Turkey) and a defender of orthodoxy.. St. Nicholas is also called the wonderworker. He was also known as a secret gift-giver giver and is the model for modern day Santa Claus. The holy father Nicholas was archbishop of Myra and the son of a pious couple. His uncle also ordai ordained ned him as a bishop. St Nicholas participated in the Council of Nicea in 325 AD. St. Nicholas lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his uncle. His parents left him a considerable inheritance inheritance. Following the call of Christ If you want to be perfect, erfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me. (Matthew 19:21) 19:21). He used his wealth to help the poor and needy. Saint Nicholas always gave charity in secret and tried to conceal his good deeds. One of his most well well-known known acts of helping those in need is the story about a tradesman from Patara, who had three daughters. He lost all his wealth and in efforts to support his family intended to sell his daughters to slavery. Learning about his wicked icked intentions, St. Nicholas secretly visited him one night and threw a sack of gold through the window. With the money, the man arranged an honorable marriage for his daughter. St. Nicholas also secretly provided gold for the other daughters. ed many miracles through St. Nicholas and therefore he was called St. God worked Nicholas the Wonderworker. St. Nicholas died of natural causes in the fourth century and a few centuries later his relics were trans transferred ferred to the Italian city Bari, where a large cathedral dral is dedicated to him. Throughout the world there are many churches named after St. Nicholas and he is considered as one of the most revered saints of Universal church, he is especially honoured in Russia. Because of the special care shown to children children,, he is considered the protector of children, as well as shipwrecked. The Armenian church celebrates St. Nicholas twice a year: on the Saturday of the 10th Sunday following the Feast of Holy Cross (this year November 26) and on the Saturday following thee second Sunday of the Advent. 3

Յակոբի շաբաթապահքի: Եկեղեցական աստուածպաշտութեան մէջ բարեկենդան կը կոչուի իւրաքանչիւր շաբաթապահքին եւ Մեծ Պահքին նախորդող օրը: Պահքի օրերուն հաւատացեալները կը հրաժարին կենդանական ծագում ունեցող ճաշերէն եւ կը սնուին միայն բուսական ուտեստեղէնով: Ս. Յակոբի շաբաթապահքը կը տեւէ Երկուշաբթիէն Ուրբաթ, իսկ Շաբաթ օրը Տօնն է Ս. Յակոբ Մծբնացիի (այս տարի Դեկտեմբեր 17): Ս. Սարգիսի պահքի նմանութեամբ, Ս. Յակոբի Պահքին ալ ոմանք 1 կամ 3 օր ծոմապահութիւն կ'ընեն: Ժողովրդական սովորութիւն եղած է, ծոմապահութիւն ընող նշանուած աղջիկներուն, նշանածի տունէն նուէրներու հետ միասին յատուկ հելվա ղրկելը, որ կը կոչուի նաեւ «Ս. Յակոբի հելվա»: Անգամ մը եւս յիշեցնենք, որ Պահքը ոչ միայն որոշակի սնունդէ ինքզինքը զրկելն է, այլ նաեւ ինքնամաքրման, աղօթքի, զղջումի, մեր մեղքերը գիտակցելու եւ խոկումի շրջան մը: EVE OF THE FAST T OF ST. JAMES This Sunday, December 11, is the Eve of the Fast of St. James (Hagop) of Nisibis. This five-day fast starts on Monday till Friday. During Fast of St. James, the faithful give up food of animal origin and consume only vegetarian food. The Saturday following the Fast is the Feast day of St. James of Nisibis, which this year falls on Saturday December 17. Just like St. Sarkis's fast, during the Fast of St. James some faithful follow a much stricter fast and abstain from all kinds of food for 1 or 3 days (Dzom). According the folk traditions, for the fasting engaged girls their future in-laws would send gifts and a special sweet called 'St. Hagop's Helva'. Let us not forget, that fasting is not just the rejection of animal food, but it is also a time to to cleanse our minds and hearts from fallacies; time to repent, pray and lead a virtuous life. 5

Յակոբի Պահքը նաեւ կը կոչուի Ձմեռնամուտի Պահք: Հայ եկեղեցական տօնացոյցին մէջ սահմանուած են տարուայ 4 եղանակներու`գարնան, Ամառուայ, Աշնան եւ Ձմեռուայ շաբաթապահքեր: Սոյն պահքերը յայտնի են նաեւ Մեծի Պահոց երկրորդ շաբթուայ, Եղիական, Վարագայ Ս. Խաչի եւ Ս. Յակոբի Պահքեր անունով: ԳԱՐՈՒՆ - Մեծի Պահոց երկրորդ շաբաթապահքը (Մարտ ամսուն) կը պատկանի Մեծ Պահքի շարքին եւ կը կոչուի նաեւ Գարնան Շաբաթապահք: Եղանակային շաբաթապահք է, եւ տօն չունի: ԱՄԱՌ - Եղիական Պահքը (Յունիս) ըլլալով ամառնամուտի Պահք, կը կոչուի նաեւ Ամառուայ Պահք, կամ ժողովրդական լեզուով «Թրթուրի Պահք»: Ս. Յարութեան տօնին յաջորդող առաջին շաբաթապահքն է: Եղանակային Պահք ըլլալով կապ չունի Եղիա մարգարէին, սակայն կը կոչուի Եղիական, որովհետեւ շաբաթապահքի յաջորդ օրը յիշատակն է Եղիա մարգարէի: Կը տեւէ 5 օր (Երկուշաբթիէն` Ուրբաթ) եւ տօն չունի: ԱՇՈՒՆ - Վարագայ յ Ս. Խաչի պահքը (Սեպտեմբեր), Աշնան եղանակային շաբաթապահք է, որ կը կոչուի նաեւ Ս. Գէորգի Պահք, որովհետեւ շաբաթավերջին տօնն է Ս. Գէորգի: Այս Պահքն ունի սրբոց տօներ եւ կը տեւէ հինգ օր: ՁՄԵՌ - Ս. Յակոբի Յ կամ Ձմեռուայ Պահքը, եղանակային շաբաթապահքերէն վերջինն է, կը սկսի ձմեռնամուտին (Դեկտեմբեր): Կը զուգադիպի Ս. Յակոբի տօնին, ուրկէ առած է իր անունը: Ունի սրբոց տօներ եւ կը տեւէ հինգ օր: DID YOU KNOW?... The fast of St. James is also called the Winter Fast. The Armenian church established 4 week-long fasts dedicated to arrival of 4 seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. In our church calendar, these fasts appear by other names as well: the fast on 6

7 the second week of Great Lent, The Fast of Elijah, The fast of Holy Cross of Varak and the Fast of St. James. SPRING - The Seco ond week of Great Lent, which usually falls in March, is also called the The Spring Fast. It is part of the Great Lent and does not have feast days. SUMMER - The fast t of Elijah is also known as The Summer Fas st (in June). It is the first week-long fast after the Easter. The fast has nothing to do with the prophet Elijah, but is called The Fast of Elijah, because the Saturday following the fast is the Feast of Prophet Elijah. The Fast lasts from Monday to Friday and there are no feast days during those 5 days. AUTUMN - The Au utumn Fast ( in September) is called the Fas st of The Holy Cross of Varak. It is also known as the Fast of St t. Kevork (St. George), since the Saturday following it is the feast day of St. Kevork. There are feast days through the duration of the fast and it lasts for 5 days. WINTER - The Winter Fast or the Fast of St James of Nisi sibis marks the arrival of the winter season and usually takes place in December. The Saturday following the fast is the Feast day of St. James, hence its name. This week-long fast contains feast days and lasts for 5 days.
